a a a a a a Tuesday, September 24, 1991 The Kansas City Star B-5 W. Gooden, 75, Topeka, former business manager of Local 101 of the International Union of Operating Engineers in Kansas City, died Sept. 21. 1991, at a hospital in Topeka. Mr.

Gooden was business manager of the local for two years before he retired in 1980. Earlier he was a business representative of the local in Topeka for 23 years. He had been a member of the union since 1943. He served on the executive board of the Kansas AFL-CIO from 1958 to 1978 and formerly served on the Kansas State Apprentice Council and the board of appeals of the Kansas State Selection Service. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge, both in Topeka.

He formerly served on the advisory council of Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, He was an Army veteran of World War II and a lifelong Topeka resident. Survivors include his wife of 52 years. Mary Blanche Shehi Gooden of the home: a son. Donald Roy Gooden, Encinitas. Calif: daughter, Deanna Kay Gooden, Topeka: and a granddaughter.

Gooden Peter Halford, 100, southwest Kansas City, died Sept. 23, 1991, at Saint Joseph Health Center. Mr. Halford was born July 26, 1891, in Denmark and had lived in Kansas City since 1929. He was a business broker, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the Kansas City Board of Realtors for 50 years. He was a member and assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 11 and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a member of the Shepherd's Center. Survivors include a son, Richard K. Halford, Overland Park: three grandchildren: three great-grandchildren.

G. Hugh Wamble, 68, Kansas City in Clay County, who died Sept. 22, 1991, at the Liberty Hospital, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Wornall Road Baptist Church. Contributions to the G.

Hugh Wamble Fund for Religious Liberty Studies at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary are suggested. Mr. Wamble had been professor of church history at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary since 1959. He had served interim pastorates at churches in Missouri, including the Antioch Community Church, and was former pastor of two churches in Kentucky. He taught church history at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, from 1955 to 1958.

He was a lobbyist for the Missouri Baptist Convention for eight years and was president of the convention from 1973 to 1975. He was a member and past chairman of the Missouri Baptist Christian Life Commission. He was a member of the Wornall Road Baptist Church. Mr. Wamble was a graduate of Mercer University, Macon, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; and the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He also studied at Duke University. He wrote three books and published articles in periodicals. He was a Marine sergeant in World War II. He was born in Grady County, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wamble of the home; two daughters, Susan Stiver.

WILLIAM C. AKERS William C. Akers. 77. Grandview, died Sept.

22, 1991, in the Timberlake Care Center, 12110 Holmes Road. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Akers was an inventory manager for the General Electric Co. before he retired in 1976.

A former Kansas City area man was fatally injured Thursday in a pedestrian accident in the Lake Tahoe area.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, 53-year-old Richard J. Goode of Salt Lake City was crossing U.S. 50 in front of a casino in Stateline about 10 p.m. Thursday. He was struck by a westbound car.

The driver of the car fled the scene, dragging the victim under the car. Carlos Diaz of South Lake Tahoe, was apprehended two miles from the accident by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
