St Thomas’s Cathedral announces Holy Week 2025 services schedule - Borneo Post Online (2025)

KUCHING (April 12): St Thomas’s Cathedral has released its full schedule of services for Holy Week 2025, with a series of meaningful observances leading up to Easter Sunday.

Dean of Kuching, The Very Reverend Kho Thong Meng, welcomes all Anglican members to participate either in-person or through livestreams, in what is considered the most sacred week in the Christian calendar.

All services — except for the Kebaktian dalam Bahasa Malaysia — will be livestreamed via the Cathedral’s official YouTube channel.

This allows elderly members and those residing overseas to join in worship virtually.

Congregants attending in person are advised to arrive early to avoid traffic and parking congestion. Entry to the church compound is via Gate 2 (opposite the Grab office/Kuching Plaza), while exits will be through Gates 3 and 4.

RELA personnel will be stationed throughout the cathedral grounds to assist with traffic flow and crowd management.

The Parish Office will operate throughout Holy Week from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm, and Saturday, 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Holy Week services begin on April 14 and continue through April 16, with evening services held at 7.30pm.

On Maundy Thursday, April 17, a service in English will be held at 7.30pm, celebrated by The Very Reverend Kho Thong Meng, with The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute preaching.

On Good Friday, April 18, the day begins with an English-language morning service at 6.30am, led by The Reverend Wity Kendu and preached by The Reverend Dato’ Bong Ah Loi.

This is followed by the Commemoration of the Passion of Christ at 8.30am, with The Reverend Canon Roannie W. Cannidy as celebrant and The Reverend Dato’ Bong Ah Loi as preacher.

At 10.30am, a Mandarin-language service will be led by The Very Reverend Kho Thong Meng, who will also deliver the sermon. Concurrently, a Bahasa Malaysia service will take place at McDougall Hall, with The Reverend Robin Sabai as celebrant and The Reverend Peter Augustine preaching.

At 12.00 noon, the Stations of the Cross will be led by The Reverend Wity Kendu, followed by Veneration of the Cross by The Reverend Canon Roannie Cannidy.

Evening Prayer will take place at 3.00pm, led by The Reverend Ralpheal Rueben.

The Great Easter Vigil will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 9.00pm in English, with The Very Reverend Kho Thong Meng as celebrant and The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute delivering the sermon. The service will include a procession and the Blessing of the Easter Garden.

On Easter Sunday, April 20, services begin at 6.30am in English, with The Reverend Canon Roannie Cannidy as celebrant and The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute preaching.

The 8.30am English service, which will include a procession, will be led and preached by The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute. At 10.30am, the Bahasa Malaysia service will be celebrated by The Reverend Peter Augustine and preached by The Reverend Wity Kendu.

This will be followed at 11.00am by a Mandarin service led by The Very Reverend Kho Thong Meng, with The Reverend Alan Goh preaching.

At 2.00pm, an Iban-language service will be conducted by The Reverend Robin Sabai, with the sermon delivered by The Reverend Wity Kendu.

The final service of the day, at 5.30pm in English, will be led by The Reverend Dato’ Bong Ah Loi, with The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute preaching.
